The US may approve the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine this week.

According to CBS News, the US is already studying the possibility of fulfilling Ukraine’s long-standing request for cluster munitions to help meet the military’s high demand for ammunition during the counteroffensive.

As one official noted, a single cluster munition typically drops bombs that can cover five times the area of conventional weapons.

The Convention on Cluster Munitions entered into force in 2010 and prohibits the use, production, and storage of cluster munitions in 123 states that are parties or signatories to it, but the US, Russia, and Ukraine have not joined this convention.

Currently, both Ukrainian and Russian forces are using cluster munitions on the battlefield.
