The most devastating Russian attack on Lviv to date killed five people and injured 40.

Russia unleashed the most devastating missile barrage to hit the city of Lviv in western Ukraine since the start of the war, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday. The attack killed five people and injured 40, destroying two floors in an apartment building. The State Emergency Service said seven people were rescued without injuries, and 64 were evacuated at the scene. This was the largest attack against civilian infrastructure in Lviv since the start of the invasion in February last year, the city’s Mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, said.

Ukraine downed seven of 10 Kalibr cruise missiles fired by Russia overnight from ships and submarines in the Black Sea. The Russians used a new tactic: firing missiles toward the north first, then sharply turning west, targeting Lviv.

Officials said the missile attack destroyed over 30 houses, 250 apartments, 10 dormitories, two university buildings, an orphanage, and a school. It also damaged one substation in Lviv.
