Europe persuades Greece to hand over Patriot systems to Ukraine, and Poland promises support with other types of weapons.

Sources in the Greek government said that, after pressure from European leaders, Greece apparently agreed to give Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine for monetary compensation and under US “guarantees” against the threat from Turkey. It is noted that the US has already provided guarantees and assured Athens that, if necessary, they will transfer Patriot air defense systems to Greece to replace those provided to Ukraine or compensate for them from the $61B aid package after the document’s final approval.

Greece currently has six Patriot systems. Ukraine could receive at least one Patriot PAC-3 complex with PAC-2 GEM missiles.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that his country would not be able to provide Patriot systems to Ukraine but would instead help strengthen its air defense with other types of weapons.

In addition, Latvia expressed its readiness to hand over a short-range air defense system to Ukraine.
