Brazil refuses to sell arms to Ukraine, hoping for peace talks.

Ukraine wants to buy weapons from Brazil, but the Latin American country’s authorities refuse to sell and insist on peace negotiations.

As the NYT writes, Brazil refused to transfer unused anti-aircraft gun ammunition to Germany, which it had previously purchased from Germany. The country called for peace and criticized Russia’s military invasion in carefully worded statements.

The state, which relies on Moscow for fertilizer and fuel, has also made it clear it will not send any weapons to the front line and instead insists on mediating peace talks.

Brazil says that the guiding principle of its foreign policy has long been the principle of remaining “a friend to all”.

However, after the start of the war in Yemen in 2014, Brazil supplied Saudi Arabia and the UAE with more than 21,000 tons of weapons and ammunition worth $680M, including cluster munitions.
