Ukraine needs 4.5 million additional workers for GDP growth, while eight million people are economically inactive.
According to a study by the International Labor Organization, Ukraine needs 8.6 million additional workers to enable GDP growth. At the same time, according to the Ministry of Economy, Ukraine only needs half this number, 4.5 million.
Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Tetyana Berezhna said that labor productivity is also essential for economic growth at the Kyiv International Economic Forum. She cited Denmark as an example, where there are fewer people than there were in Ukraine at the beginning of the war, but the country’s GDP is 100% higher. Also, the number of workers in Poland has not changed since 1990, and the country’s GDP has become twice as large as Ukraine’s.
Therefore, according to her, Ukraine needs to work not only on creating an inclusive labor market that will bring people back from abroad but also invest in employee productivity. Berezhna also noted that Ukraine has approximately eight million economically inactive people who are not looking for work for specific reasons.
