Ukraine might obtain candidate country status in June.

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas believes that Ukraine has a chance to get candidate country status for EU membership in a few months, possibly in June. “Now we are even talking about weeks, not months. I think member states will present their proposals in June, and Ukraine’s compliance with the Copenhagen criteria will be recognized,” said Matti Maasikas. At the same time, he stressed that it is better not to speculate on what the assessment will be and how EU members will react to the European Commission’s proposal, as the decision must be made unanimously.
