The US Congress has approved an embargo on energy from Russia.

The US Congress has voted to tighten sanctions against Russia, backing an embargo on Russian energy and depriving Russia of its trading partner status, reported Reuters. The Senate unanimously voted to abolish permanent normal trade relations status for both Russia and its close ally Belarus. Shortly afterward, it unanimously supported the energy embargo. After approval by the Senate, the law was sent to the House of Representatives, which quickly passed the trade measure by the majority of the votes. President Joe Biden supports these measures and will sign them, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters.
