The US Senate has said that aid to Ukraine will not be approved before Christmas.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell believes Congress is unlikely to pass an additional financial package for Ukraine before Christmas, even if both political parties agree on it in the coming days.

At the same time, according to McConnell, agreements on legislation to help Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific region will not happen if US President Joe Biden does not fully join the negotiations with Republicans in the Senate. These negotiations aim to include provisions limiting migrants crossing the US-Mexico border.

“It’s virtually impossible – even if we do get a deal – to get it done, get it through the Senate, get it to the House by Christmas,” McConnell told reporters at the Capitol.

“There will be no agreement until Joe Biden and the Republicans come to a deal”.

On December 14 the House of Representatives and the Senate will go on Christmas break.
