The unloading of grain in the ports of Odesa is decreasing despite the grain initiative.

Ukrainian Railways continues to record a significant decrease in grain unloading rates in the ports of Greater Odesa, the company’s top manager Valery Tkachov said.

He specified that the rate of daily unloading of wagons with grain fell to 92 wagons per day against 700-900 wagons earlier. As of May 22, 962 wagons with grain loads are moving in the direction of the ports of Great Odesa. After the grain initiative was extended eight vessels passed their inspection, five more were in the inspection zone, and 10 were registered for inspection. An additional 42 vessels were waiting in line for inspection.

At the same time, the situation in the port of Izmail, an alternative for exporting grain cargoes, remains challenging due to the critical accumulation of wagons. As of May 17 2,428 wagons with grain were moving toward the port.
