The UN General Assembly will address reparations for Ukraine.
An extraordinary special session of the UN General Assembly on November 14 will consider a draft resolution on the creation of a mechanism to compensate Ukraine for damages caused by the Russian war, the spokeswoman for the head of the General Assembly, Paulina Kubiak, said. According to Kubiak, the Ukrainian delegation requested a session be held to discuss the Promoting Legal Protection and Reparations to Ukraine resolution. In this document, the UN states recognize the need to create a mechanism to compensate Ukraine for the damages caused by the Russian Federation. It also contains recommendations for states to create a register of such losses. Compensation will be financed through seized Russian Federation assets abroad. Currently, the amount of compensation being discussed is at least $300B.
