The UN counts the number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
According to the UN, the number of Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection status in Europe reached 4.8 million as of January 31, 2023. In the last two months there has been a significant outflow of Ukrainians with this status from Germany, by more than 140,000, to 881,000. The country ranks second in terms of the number of registered refugees from Ukraine. In first place is Poland with 1.56 million, the third is the Czech Republic with 485,100, Italy is in fourth place with 169,310, and Spain closes the top five with 161,010. The UK follows with 158,800 and Bulgaria with an indicator of 151,710. Little more than 100,000 Ukrainians are registered in three more countries: France, Romania, and Slovakia. According to the NBU, the number of citizens living abroad will reach nine million in the first quarter of 2023.
