The Pentagon has overestimated the cost of weapons supplied to Ukraine by $6.2B, so it has more money for further assistance.

The Pentagon’s audit of US military aid to Ukraine revealed a $6.2B discrepancy between the estimated and actual cost of the equipment, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said.

She explained that the Pentagon calculated the cost of the equipment that replaces the transferred weapons, not the actual value, which is less when considering wear and tear. Because of this, the cost of the equipment removed from American stocks and given to Ukraine was overestimated.

So, for the 2023 fiscal year (which expires on September 30), the final calculation is $3.6B, and for 2022 $2.6B. That is, it is half of the previously announced amounts. That means additional funds can be used to support Ukraine during its counteroffensive against Russia without negotiating another military aid package with Congress.
