Stoltenberg: Ukraine will become a NATO member after reforms are completed and the end of the war.

Ukraine will become a member of NATO, but first, it must carry out reforms determined by the member states, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg before a meeting of the North Atlantic Council. He also added that it is too early to talk about the decisions that will be made regarding Ukraine at the Washington summit.

“All allies agree that full membership is impossible during war,” Stoltenberg said.

He also reminded attendees about the help that the member states provide to Ukraine. In November, Germany and the Netherlands promised to allocate €10B to Ukraine. Romania added an F-16 training center for Ukrainian pilots. Ukraine’s allies, including the US and Finland, have sent more air defenses and ammunition.

Stoltenberg also noted Ukraine’s military achieved some results in the 2023 campaign, even though the front line barely moved.

“The Ukrainians managed to inflict significant losses on the Russian invaders and managed to dislodge the Russian Black Sea Fleet from a large part of the Black Sea“, the NATO Secretary General noted.
