Half of Ukraine’s agricultural imports come from the EU.
In January-August 2022, Ukraine imported agricultural products worth about $2.2B from EU countries. This is about 55% of the total import of farming goods, said Bohdan Dukhnytskyi, a senior researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics. Dukhnytskyi noted that Ukraine imported $754M of agricultural products from Asian countries, $256M from Latin American countries, and $148M from African countries. As well, $590M worth of Ukraine’s agricultural products were bought by Poland. The top ten importers also included: Turkey, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Norway, the US, China, and Spain. In total, the top ten provide more than 57% of Ukrainian agricultural imports. Ukraine buys most of its fruits and berries abroad. The import of products of this group in eight months reached $398M. Fish and seafood, oil seeds and fruits, sunflower for sowing, vegetables (+40% in eight months), extracts, concentrates, and sauces are also leading imports. Ukraine also buys alcohol, soft drinks, tobacco products, and animal feed.
