Germany wants to obtain permanent financial support for Ukraine from the EU.

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised to work on ensuring that by the end of the year, the EU adopts concrete decisions to ensure stable support for Ukraine in the coming years, referring to the December EU summit.

“Already at the meeting of the European Council at the end of this week, we will confirm our joint will to provide financial support to Ukraine,” said Scholz.

According to the chancellor, a separate fund for Ukraine should be created at the European level, combining grants and loans and coordinating private and state investments.

At the same time, as Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported, the government of Ukraine is negotiating with the European Commission to provide €18B in 2024 to cover the budget deficit, which will amount to about $42B.
