Germany sets a record for arms exports, and Ukraine becomes a leader among buyers.

Germany exported arms worth a record €11.71B in 2023, and the previous record, €9.35B, was recorded in 2021. Compared to 2022, export growth was 40%, where one-third of exports, or €4.15B, was shipped to Ukraine. In 2022, Germany exported weapons worth €2.24B to Ukraine.

Of the total exports, €6.15B was weapons and ammunition sales, and €5.57B was for military equipment.

About 90% of exports went to EU and NATO countries, as well as Ukraine, Japan, Australia, and South Korea. Norway, Hungary, the UK, the US, and Poland are the largest recipients of German military exports after Ukraine. Israel is in seventh place in terms of supplies with €323.2M (for comparison, €32 million in 2022).

Exports to South Korea also increased. In 2023, the German government also allowed minor arms exports to the Arab states: UAE, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
