Germany is ready to transfer Russian assets to Ukraine, and the US and the EU are putting pressure on Switzerland.

The German authorities are ready to send frozen Russian assets to restore Ukraine if there is a legal basis for this and the allies act similarly. As Bloomberg writes, Olaf Scholz’s government generally supports Ukraine’s demand for reparations through confiscated Russian assets, but an official position on this issue has not yet been developed. At the same time, the US and the EU are putting pressure on Switzerland regarding Russian assets, which the country had previously frozen and could now hand over to restore Ukraine. The EU and G7 countries have frozen more than $300B in Russian assets. Switzerland blocked about 7.5B francs belonging to Russians and 15 real estate properties. Representatives from the Swiss government said that the issue of confiscation of Russian assets is raised as part of regular informal contacts with foreign partners.
