Borrell is working on future EU security commitments for Ukraine, but Hungary continues to block €500M in aid.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said at the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels that he is preparing the EU’s future security obligations to Ukraine. He added that at the meeting, 27 EU foreign ministers “approved a joint message in support of Ukraine.” “Ukraine is a priority of the EU – there will be no fatigue in our obligations,” Borrell said.

Meanwhile, Hungary continues to block the allocation of the eighth €500M tranche from the European Peace Fund, from which the EU states are compensated for the weapons they transfer to Ukraine. At the same time, Hungary has been blocking the allocation of this money for months after Ukraine included the largest Hungarian bank, OTP, in the list of war sponsors. Although Ukraine has already removed the bank from the list, Hungary demands guarantees that this will not happen again with any other Hungarian company.
