US lawmakers will not vote on aid for Ukraine this year.

The US Senate will not vote on an additional aid package for Ukraine, which will also require measures to strengthen US border security, until early next year, even as negotiators from both parties continue their work, Senate leaders said.

“Our negotiators will be working very hard over the December and January recesses, and our goal is to get something done as soon as we get back“, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said.

Meanwhile, Republican John Thune said a deal would not be reached before January 2024.

In a joint statement, Schumer and Republican leader Mitch McConnell said negotiators were “making encouraging progress” but “difficult issues remain.”

As a reminder, the administration of US President Joe Biden initiated a new joint aid package for Ukraine and Israel with a total amount of $106B, with $61.4B intended for Ukraine.
