US aid to Ukraine is on the verge of collapse.

The US border security agreement, which also includes assistance to Ukraine, is close to collapsing due to doubts in the Senate. Republican support has collapsed in the face of opposition from the leading Republican candidate in the presidential race, Donald Trump, writes Bloomberg.

Republican senators said Wednesday’s planned vote was too early. James Lankford, a key Republican in the negotiations, said the procedural vote would fail because senators needed more time to consider and amend the bill. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told senators they should vote against it Wednesday if they need more time to consider the bill.

“The blocking of the procedural vote means that consideration of the bill will be delayed indefinitely, at least until after the two-week recess that the Senate is scheduled to begin later this week,” the newspaper writes.

Instead, US President Joe Biden plans to veto the bill on providing aid to Israel, as he considers it incomplete without funding for Ukraine and funds for border security. The administration is calling on both houses of Congress to pass bipartisan legislation.
