Ukrainian wind farms lost more than €550M due to war.
Losses of wind farms from destruction, damage, or theft of equipment by Russian invaders have exceeded €50M, and more than €500M were lost due to forced downtime, said Deputy Minister of Energy Yaroslav Demchenkov. He cited data stating that as of February 24, 2022, the total installed capacity of Ukrainian wind power plants (excluding the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea) amounted to 1.67 GW, as well as two nuclear power units. However, due to the war, almost all wind power plants in the Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, and Mykolaiv regions have been out of reach at the frontline or in occupied zones since the first days. At the same time, as of today, 80% of wind generation is disabled or captured, and projects for constructing 11 land-based wind farms with a total capacity of almost 1 GW have been put on hold due to the war.
