Ukrainian Energy Holding will build an energy storage system in Poland.

DRI, DTEK’s EU-focused subsidiary, has signed a definitive, binding share purchase agreement with Poland’s Columbus Energy that will give it the right to build a 133 MW battery storage facility in southern Poland, subject to approval.

DTEK notes that this is the largest energy storage system (ESS) project in Poland, and the deal is its first significant infrastructure investment in that country and a key element in the company’s plan to create a pan-European energy system connecting Ukraine and the EU.

DTEK’s goal is to develop a portfolio of renewable energy projects in Europe with a 5 GW capacity by 2030 through DRI. The acquisition of the 133 MW ESS construction project makes the DTEK group one of the first companies to develop this technology on this scale in Poland.

DRI expects to close the deal with Columbus in the coming months and begin constructing the facility in the fourth quarter of 2024.
