Ukraine’s coal production at state mines decreases by half while the price of coal has increased four times,
said the general director of Centrenergo, Volodymyr Egorov. He specified that coal production now amounts to about two million tons per year, and the price of coal has increased from UAH 1,800 to UAH 4,230 per ton without VAT and transportation.
According to Egorov, the last quote received from the supplier in February 2023 was an increase in the price of coal products from state-owned coal mining enterprises to UAH 5,030 per ton. At the same time, the price of alternative Ukrainian suppliers does not differ too much from the offers of Ukrvugilya, which is currently Centrenergo’s leading supplier, and the price of coal from the EU with delivery today is about $180 (UAH 6,600).
Egorov explained that under the current conditions, it is possible to cover less than 50% of of Centrenergo’s total needs, so the company will once again switch to burning natural gas as the main source of fuel, which will be supplied at a discounted price during January-April 2023.
