Ukraine will need up to €13B to build a sustainable energy system.
Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, said that in order to build a power system resistant to possible attacks, Ukraine must build more than 12 GW of capacity in the coming years, for which €12-13B is needed.
According to him, the emphasis should be placed not on constructing large power plants, which the enemy can easily destroy with a few missiles, but on decentralizing capacities. This will primarily concern balancing Ukrainian power generation, particularly with alternative energy.
To have an energy system resistant to enemy attacks, in the next few years, Ukraine needs to build at least four GW of new wind power plant capacity, 3.8 GW of thermal power plant capacity, 1.4 GW of gas generation capacity, 1.1 GW of new biomass thermal power plant capacity and 0 .8 GW of energy storage capacity.
According to Kudrytskyi, this is impossible without involving private investment. Therefore, economic prerequisites are needed to interest businesses and communities in constructing a new decentralized energy system.
