Ukraine will build a new road between Chisinau and the Danube port of Giurgiulesti.
The Ukrainian company Automagistral-Pivden signed a contract to construct a section of the strategic M3 highway between Chisinau and the Danube port of Giurgiulesti. The EBRD will finance the project.
In 2006, Ukraine transferred 430 meters of the Danube and the Prut River coast to Moldova and opened access to the Black Sea to its neighbor. Thus the Danube port of Giurgiulesti was formed, from which a dense flow of trucks now traavels to the country’s capital.
Since 2019, 85 km of the M3’s Kyshiniv-Djurdzhulesti route has been completed. However, the M3 passes through the city of Vulkanesti, which creates inconvenience for both transport and residents. The new section of road will redirect traffic flow outside the city limits. It is noted that under the new contract the construction will start in September and should be finished in the middle of 2025.
