Ukraine plans to build over 200 waste processing plants, for almost $4B, in 10 years.

As Minister of the Environment Ruslan Strelets said, “We analyzed the problems of each region, studied the volume of waste generation, and formed a plan for the placement of waste processing plants, which included 207 projects.”

Each project incorporates a cluster approach to the construction of waste processing facilities. Each cluster is designed to process 400,000-500,000 tons of waste annually and must ensure the disposal of 100% of newly generated solid household waste in its territory. According to estimates, the investment in construction is estimated at almost $4B.

According to the minister, an investor is already in place to co-finance the garbage processing project’s implementation in the Kyiv region. Investors were also interested in projects in the Poltava, Odesa, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Similar cooperation formats are starting in the Sumy, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, and Kharkiv regions.

According to the Ministry of Environment’s strategic goals, new waste processing plants should appear in Ukraine by 2034.
