Ukraine needs €4B to invest in waste processing.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has identified more than 200 waste processing projects as part of its waste management reform strategy. According to the department’s calculations, €4B is needed for their implementation, said the head of the Ministry of Environment, Ruslan Strilets. In particular, he reported on construction plans in these regions:

  1. Kyiv region – two new waste processing plants with a capacity of 470,000 tons per year. The project cost is €135M, there is already an investor.
  2. Ivano-Frankivsk region – five plants, processing more than 450,000 tons per year. The estimated project cost is over €155M. Negotiations with an investor have begun.
  3. Poltava region – four plants with a capacity of up to 500,000 tons annually. The construction cost is €135M, and negotiations with a potential investor are ongoing.
  4. Odesa region – seven plants that will provide for the waste management needs of at least 2.3 million Ukrainians.

Next up are projects in the Transcarpathia, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. The minister added that Ukraine already has established the necessary conditions at the legislative level.
