Ukraine is closer to receiving ATACMS and Taurus long-range missiles.
Thus, WSJ sources in the Biden administration reported that the possibility of providing a limited number of these weapons is being considered, which could reduce the Pentagon’s concerns about the excessive use of American stocks. Biden has not yet approved the transfer of missiles, and provisions on the use of ATACMS will require Ukraine’s promise not to use these weapons for strikes in Russian territory.
In turn, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Germany needs another week or two to decide whether to transfer cruise missiles to Ukraine.
At a joint press conference, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized several “sensitive issues” in the context of their countries’ provision of long-range missiles, including the use and maintenance of the weapons. However, both politicians noted that Ukraine has the right to self-defense and that how Ukrainians use these weapons is “their business”.
