Ukraine increases the import of bitumen for road reconstruction.
In April Ukrainian companies increased bitumen import for road repair and construction by 65% to 9,500 tons compared to March of the current year. This trend is due to the seasonal increase in road and construction work.
In total, 19,200 tons of bitumen were imported into Ukraine in the first four months of the year, which is 240% more than in the same period last year. However, this is still six times less than in January-April 2021.
However, in 2023 bitumen consumption in Ukraine will be low because of a decrease in government highway development program funding. All of the imported bitumen this year originated in Poland. The largest supplier was Orlen Asphalt, which shipped 17,000 tons of product, and the remaining amount was provided by the Polish companies Drog Bud, Treeden Group, and Uni Bitumen.
