Despite the war, Ukrainian farmland is becoming more expensive.

The price of Ukrainian agricultural land increased by an average of 20% in January-April 2023, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Denis Bashlyk said. He added that the land value increase is observed despite the full-scale invasion. But there is no such growth in the regions close to hostilities.

For example, in the Lviv region as of the beginning of May, the average price of a hectare of agricultural land compared to the start of the market year has more than tripled from UAH 51,000 to UAH 162,000. In dollar terms, the price has increased by 155% from $1,740 to $4,426. In the Kyiv region, a hectare of land costs UAH 148,000 ($4,043) on average, compared to UAH 48,000 ($1,638) when the land market in Ukraine was established (2021). But in the Chernihiv region, the closest region to the Russian borders, the average price of one hectare increased only slightly, from UAH 16-17,000 ($580) to UAH 23,000 ($628).
