Ukraine has adopted an EU standard for injecting biomethane into its gas networks.
The Ukrainian Research and Training Center approved the corresponding Standardization, Certification, and Quality Problems document. The standard was developed based on the current EU protocol, noted the Regional Gas Company (RGK). This is the basic technical standard of the EU, which defines the requirements for the quality of biomethane and the content of chemical compounds in it.
Based on the standard, technical conditions will be issued for connecting biomethane plants to gas distribution networks. Furthermore, the standard includes all Ukrainian producers, that is, all network operators can use it for their product.
The RGK emphasized that the unification of biomethane quality requirements with the European standard is essential for creating conditions for biomethane export to European countries and further integration of Ukraine’s gas market with its EU counterparts. The document will enter into force on November 1, 2023.
