Ukraine – EU borders will be expanded with new checkpoints.
Soon, two additional checkpoints will be opened on the border with Romania, announced Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov. In addition, it is planned to open many additional checkpoints along the borders with EU countries to relieve congestion to other destinations. The Minister hopes the new border checkpoints with Poland will be opened on October 4. Ukraine and Poland plan to designate one or two checkpoints to allow empty trucks to travel quickly in both directions in order to reduce long lines at the border. According to the minister, the Ukrainian side has already discussed the possibility of such a move with the Polish side, so the details of this step are now being discussed. According to Kubrakov, the potential losses to the Ukrainian budget due to long lines at the Polish-Ukrainian border amount to about UAH 55-60M ($1.6M) daily.
