Ukraine can produce up to eight billion cubic meters of biomethane per year.
Ukraine has significant opportunity to develop its biofuel market potential because of its developed agricultural sector, an extensive network of main and distribution gas pipelines, and common borders with EU member states, said Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Yulia Pidkomorna.
She added that despite the war Ukraine continues developing its bioenergy and biogas industries. To that end, in February Ukraine signed a memorandum on a strategic EU partnership in biomethane, hydrogen, and other synthetic gases. Moreover, in March Ukraine concluded a memorandum of cooperation to improve the interstate pipeline connection between Poland and Ukraine.
“These agreements will provide significant impetus to the development of the industry and open opportunities for close cooperation between Ukrainian biomethane producers with EU partners,” the official stressed.
