Trump’s European Defense Plan: Ukraine and the EU cannot continue the fight against Russia without American weapons.
British economist Timothy Ash noted that without US support, Ukraine and Europe can finance the fight against Russia for months, but not for a year or more, given their dependence on American weapon supplies.
“The war costs Ukraine $100B a year, but it takes $150B a year to put Ukraine on its feet,” Ash believes.
According to the expert, Europe should abandon its protection of $330B in immobilized Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine.
“Trump may not want to write checks for Ukraine’s defense, but if Europe and Ukraine are willing to spend hundreds of billions of dollars in the US on defense, then Trump will not be able to turn down the prospect of saving hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of jobs”.
Ash advises the allies to make Trump an offer for a long-term arms procurement program, calling it the Trump Plan for European Defense to play to his ego.
