Trump has introduced large-scale tariffs; how will Ukraine be affected?

Commenting on the introduction of import tariffs by US President Trump, Ukraine’s Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, noted: “It is difficult, but not critical. A general tariff of 10% will apply to us. There is no separate higher tariff for Ukraine.”
Last year, Ukraine exported $874M to the US, with $363M worth of cast iron and $112M of pipe. At the same time, goods worth $3.4B were purchased from the US. Despite this, Ukraine’s tariffs on American goods remain quite low; for example, the rate for cars is 10%, while coal and oil from the US have no tariffs. Therefore, Kyiv has a chance to negotiate better conditions as a reliable ally, since both countries benefit from fair tariffs.
“If everything remains unchanged, the universal American tariff will mainly impact small producers. Thus, we are already working to ensure that Ukraine has better conditions,” Svyrydenko explained.
The parliament also believes that given the small share of goods exported to the US, the tariff will not have a major negative effect on Ukraine.
