Top House Republicans promise bipartisan support for Ukraine.
Top House Republicans vowed their continued bipartisan support for Ukraine once the GOP takes control of the House in January, reported CNN. Republicans Mike Turner and Kevin McCarthy expressed their support for sending long-range missiles to Ukraine, and they stressed the importance of providing air defense systems that are easy to use. Moreover, Turner echoed McCaul’s confidence that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “will have bipartisan support”. Turner also was critical that only part of a $40B in aid passed by the Democratic-led House in May went directly toward arming Ukraine. Turner also pushed back on the narrative that the opposition to Ukraine aid comes only from within the GOP conference. He cited a since-withdrawn letter from House Democrats that called for President Biden to pursue a “diplomatic push” along with continued aid, noting “that certainly isn’t helpful to the White House.”
