This year, gas production in Ukraine may increase by 100-200 million cubic meters.
Gross gas production in Ukraine in the first half of the year amounted to 9.4 billion cubic meters, and could grow by 100% by the end of the year. This would be 100-200 million cubic meters more than last year’s figure (18.7 billion cubic meters), said Executive Director of the Association of Gas Production Companies Artem Petrenko.
He added that the drilling of approximately 70 wells has started in the last six months, while in 2023 Ukraine drilled 150 wells. He named the state-owned Ukrgazvydobuvannya as the driver behind this process but noted that private companies are also taking an active part in drilling and are working to increase production.
“In particular, Smart Energy is currently resuming hydrocarbon production at three sites in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions, so I hope they will add to the total gas production by the end of the year,” said Petrenko.
However, daily production from private companies fell by 18% compared to last year.
