This year, businesses intensified their development of renewable energy sources, and non-core companies are entering the market.

As a result of the war-induced crisis of traditional power generation, this year businesses were forced to step up the development of renewable energy sources compared to 2023. Two examples are the VR Energy wind farm project on the Dniester estuary and EcoOptima Skolivska WPP, noted Stanislav Ignatiev, founder of the Kharkiv Energy Cluster. Also, non-core market players have begun to develop solar and wind projects: OKKO, Epicenter, and Nova Poshta. In the first half of this year, businesses built 200 MW of SPP generation capacity for their own needs. On October 15, the National Commission for the Regulation of the Energy Sector plans to issue an energy storage license to Integral Storage Company, founded last year. In 2023, the first such license was issued to the Budpower company. Moreover, the city’s first water purification station will soon be built in Mykolaiv, which will operate on solar and wind energy.
