In particular, Forbes Ukraine calculated that the value of all minerals in Ukraine is $14.8 trillion, with more than 70% of the reserves located in three regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, and Dnipropetrovsk. These calculations are based on mineral price data as of February 2023.
In the total value of minerals, 62% is coal, 14% is iron ore, and each remaining asset accounts for less than 5%. The total amount of minerals is estimated at 111 billion tons.
The last official Ukrainian mineral value estimates date back to 2005. At that time, explored reserves were estimated in government documents as “$150,000 per capita, and according to Western experts, more than $200,000”, corresponding to a total estimate of $7-10 trillion.
