The US will agree to an aid package to Ukraine sooner than transferring frozen Russian assets.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to the US, Oksana Markarova, said that the priority for the Embassy of Ukraine is the approval by the US Congress of a $61B aid package. She noted that Ukraine continues receiving assistance from previous US purchases despite the lack of new aid.

She reported that the White House’s discussion of the allocation of funds for military aid and the work to confiscate more than $300B in Russian assets are part of a single plan A, and are taking place in parallel. At the same time, the last point is more complicated from the point of view of legal subtleties and requires participation not only from the United States but many other countries.

Markarova noted that although the share of Russian frozen assets in the US is not the largest, Washington’s position regarding this issue carries significant weight.
