The US reminds Ukraine that they do not approve of their strikes in Russian Federation territory, but Canada and France disagree.
The representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, reemphasized that the US does not encourage or facilitate Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. At the same time, he admitted that Kyiv decides how to conduct its military operations. However, Miller reminded that Washington “does not want the weapons supplied by the US to be used for strikes outside of Ukraine.”
The International Energy Agency (IEA) supports the US in this matter and states that Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries risk undermining global oil markets. According to the IEA report, Russia may lose 500,000 to 600,000 barrels per day of crude oil refining capacity this quarter. Therefore, the agency noted that the export of Russian oil products will drop significantly, and international markets depend heavily upon them.
At the same time, the Prime Ministers of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and France, Gabriel Attal, following a bilateral meeting, emphasized that Ukraine must decide how to protect itself and its people.
