The US is expediting delivery of two National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) to Ukraine as quickly as possible, the White House said Tuesday. The joint US-Norwegian systems will help fulfill Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s request for more air defense support. The US is on track to deliver the first two systems to Ukraine very soon, said National Security Council John Kirby. Biden had previously agreed to contract for eight NASAMS systems, providing short-to-medium range defenses. It’s the same system used to protect the airspace in Washington, DC.
