The IAEA is preparing a new safety plan for the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

According to the WP, Rafael Grossi’s team plans to present the program to the UN Security Council next week. The plan is based on five principles: a ban on placing heavy military equipment and soldiers at the ZNPP, a ban on shelling from and towards the ZNPP, protection of all ZNPP security systems, protection of all external power lines that connect the ZNPP with the power system, and monitoring compliance with these principles. This plan is not as ambitious as creating a safety zone around the ZNPP.

The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has allegedly already secured Russia’s support, but the publication does not know Ukraine’s position. The WP notes that Ukraine is not a member of the UN Security Council, but the US, with its veto power, is unlikely to support any initiative if Ukraine is against it. Negotiations are ongoing.
