The House of Representatives is preparing its own support package for Ukraine; the Republicans are discussing the confiscation of Russian assets.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson said that the new Ukrainian aid package should offer support in the form of credit or through lend-lease to protect the interests of American taxpayers. He also spoke about creating an instrument that would allow the confiscation of Russian-owned assets and their transfer to a fund that will provide support for Ukraine.

At the same time, Johnson did not mention whether he plans to include any regarding the southern border of the US, which may again turn out to be a  deal-breaker for the Democrats.

In addition, the concept of confiscating Russian assets to pay for military aid to Kyiv is gaining popularity among Republicans in the House of Representatives, said the chairman of the committee on foreign affairs, Michael McCaul. He added that he is working “on how to move forward” on aid to Ukraine and discussed with his colleagues the possibility of providing loans to Kyiv instead of grants.
