The first textile waste processing line in Ukraine, valued at ₴30M, has been launched in the Kyiv region.

In Irpin, the new facility, which processes textile waste with a capacity of 2,500 tons annually, has commenced operations under wartime conditions. These scraps originate from the production of clothing and other light industry products. Special equipment imported from Spain and Italy enables the these scraps to be prepared for further processing into yarn and fabric. Initial project investment totals around ₴30M ($715,000), with ₴8M from a state grant for processing enterprises.

Initiatives such as these will help address a significant challenge that Ukrainian exporters of light industry products to the EU are expected to encounter this year. At the EU border, documents confirming proper disposal or recycling of waste will be required. Light industry products contribute to nearly 10% of all household waste in Ukraine.

Concurrently, the Ternopil region is prioritizing improvements to its waste management system by closing down numerous landfills that fail to meet environmental standards, and it plans to establish waste processing facilities in the Berezhany, Kremenets, and Chortkiv communities.
