The first offshore wind turbines and geothermal stations should appear in Ukraine in a few years.

The Cabinet of Ministers has published the National Renewable Energy Action Plan until 2030, which states that the full-scale Russian invasion has resulted in the loss of about 25% of installed renewable energy capacity. The situation with wind power plants is particularly difficult – 75%, or about 1.4 GW, are in occupied territories. Also, about 14% of SPPs are under occupation – more than 0.6 GW.

Even in such conditions, the share of renewable energy sources remains significant. In 2023, about 10% of electricity will be produced using solar and wind energy. Taking into consideration large hydroelectric power stations, the share of RES reached 20.3% (more than in the pre-war period). In total, during 2022-2023 more than 650 MW of new renewable energy generation capacities were launched in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s plan aims to increase the share of RES to 27% in gross energy consumption in a few years. By this time, the first offshore wind turbines and geothermal stations should appear in Ukraine (the total capacity of wind turbines will be 6.2 GW, SPP – 12.2 GW, geothermal stations – 0.04 GW).
