The EU wants Ukraine to have toll roads.
Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development, said: “The issue of toll roads is an EU requirement. We have a draft law on this issue and are working on its implementation.” During an EBA discussion, he stressed that Ukraine already has agreements with the EIB on this topic.
Derkach added that a corresponding decision would be made based on the results of analysis and experts’ conclusions. Toll highways are expected to be used primarily for heavy trucks, and the money earned from their use will be directed to developing Ukraine’s road infrastructure.
Meanwhile, 67% of Ukrainian transport companies are investing to develop and expand their businesses next year. This year, 59% of companies made such investments and directed funds towards the modernization of existing facilities (59%), the creation of new capacities (44%), and the acquisition of ready-made facilities (16%). Notably, 82% of respondents support the idea of introducing toll roads, provided that their quality is first improved.
