Tens of millions of euros are necessary to modernize Ukraine’s port infrastructure.

According to Oleksandr Semyrga, head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, prior to the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion 13 seaports were operational in Ukraine, but only six are currently operating. He noted that despite systematic Russian missile and drone attacks that have damaged approximately 400 infrastructure facilities, including berths, transshipment equipment, vessels, and auxiliary equipment, Ukrainian ports maintain their operational efficiency and play a critically important role in the national economy.

Semyrga emphasized that active efforts are underway to technically modernize the fleet, digitize processes, and enhance management efficiency, which should secure the industry’s long-term sustainability. Previously, the cost for the necessary technical modernization was estimated at tens of millions of euros, and modernization projects require support from international partners.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk has signed a four-year agreement with the Latvian port of Ventspils. This partnership is designed to develop sustainable logistics, share experience, and strengthen Ukraine’s connections with EU markets.
