Since the war in Ukraine started, the fortunes of Russian billionaires have increased by 33%.

The wealth of Russia’s richest people increased by $152B over the past year as a result of high prices for natural resources. That windfall enabled them to overcome the huge losses they suffered immediately after the start of the war, writes Forbes Russia.

The list of billionaires in 2023 grew by 22 people to 110. Their combined wealth increased to $505B from $353B since the publication of the 2022 list. Before the start of the war, the total wealth of Russian billionaires in 2021 amounted to $606B.

Forbes recognized Andrey Melnichenko, who amassed a fortune in fertilizers, as the richest person in the Russian Federation – his worth is estimated at $25.2B, more than twice his fortune last year.
