Russia sold stolen Ukrainian grain worth more than $500M.
According to data from a joint investigation by the AP and PBS, it has been established that the theft of Ukrainian grain from the Russian-occupied territories involved more than 30 vessels that made more than 50 trips to export the stolen grain to Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and other countries. The Syrian state company Syriamar Shipping, which has been under US sanctions since 2015, and the Russian state United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), are both involved in these crimes. Through its subsidiary Crane Marine Contractor, USC acquired three vessels that made no less than 17 voyages from occupied Ukraine to Turkey and Syria. In June, the Turkish authorities claimed they were investigating reports of stolen Ukrainian grain arriving in the country but did not find any evidence of such crimes.
